Chronic administration of fluoxetine impairs inhibitory avoidance in male but not female mice

The effects of chronic administration of fluoxetine (20 mg/kg/day i.p.) on a one-trial step-through inhibitory avoidance task were investigated in male and female CD1 mice. In Experiment 1, treatment was administered for 21 days before the training session, whereas in Experiment 2, other subjects were subjected to the same treatment starting 24 h after the training session. The comparison of test versus training latencies showed memory deterioration with pre-training administration of fluoxetine (Experiment 1), which affected males but not females. The research examines the resilience of families with disabled children, giving a review of the major variables concerning family coping skills and their development. The study focuses on a parent training program run with parents of children suffering from Down Syndrome, Autism and Spastic Tetraparesis. A method able to determine the effects of thoughts on the parents' emotional state, using the "Idea Inventory" and the "Mood Thermometer" as instruments of assessment, has been developed and is here presented. Data showed that the parent training intervention produces relevant changes in dysfunctional thoughts of parents and an overall improvement in their mood.

In the present study data on the frequency of non-specific electrodermal responses (NSRs) are presented for a large and, with regard to sex, age and educational level, homogeneous sample of male students (n = 590). These data were obtained in 9 independent experiments in which NSRs were recorded under equivalent conditions. NSRs were scored as skin conductance changes greater than 0.02 muSiemens. Recurrence in a patient with a 10-year history of sinonasal mucosal melanoma manifesting as facial swelling

Sinonasal mucosal melanoma is a rare tumor that develops slowly and may manifest with non specific signs and symptoms, causing significant delay in diagnosis. Local recurrence is common and usually occurs within the first two years after the initial treatment. Prognosis of recurrent lesions is poor and 5-year survival ranges between 10-47%.
